The FOCUS Demonstration Team
FOCUS Tae Kwon Do is a Martial Arts Academy offering classes in local communities for students of all ages and levels of ability.
The first FOCUS Tae Kwon Do Marital Arts Club opened with a small group of students based at a local Village Hall, training on a Sunday afternoon. From day one, Chief Instructor, Adrian Perks’ ambition for the Academy has been to provide Tae Kwon Do in local communities, offering people from more rural locations the opportunity to participate in an interesting and fun sporting activity. It is that vision that laid the early foundations for the successful Academy we operate today.
Adrian Perks, 3rd Dan, has over 30 years’ experience in Martial Arts and a wealth of experience in teaching Tae Kwon Do. He has a teaching style that nurtures students’ self-confidence, sense of achievement and physical development, whilst encouraging fun and friendship along the way.
Translated from the Korean, Tae Kwon-Do means "The Art of Hand and Foot". Tae literally means to jump, kick or smash with the foot; Kwon means a fist, chiefly to punch or destroy with the hand or fist; Do means art, way or method.
It is a version of an ancient form of unarmed combat practiced for many centuries in the Orient, perfected in its present form in Korea. More recently, it has become recognised as an exciting Olympic Sport. However, you don’t have to be an Olympic Athlete to participate in Tae Kwon Do, it really is a sport anyone can enjoy and is an excellent way to improve your fitness, confidence and general well-being.
